Photo encaustic, and cold wax medium… I love the textural surface that cold wax medium adds to this encaustic photograph. The matte, velvety quality softens the luminosity of the wax just enough, creating a quiet contrast between depth and diffusion. Light moves differently across the surface — some areas glowing, others absorbing. This piece was inspired by the water lilies of Claude Monet — that sense of atmosphere, reflection, and immersion in colour. I’m not trying to recreate the scene, but to echo the feeling of being surrounded by it. Cold wax introduces a gentle interruption… a shift in sheen… a tactile presence that invites you closer. In this small demo video, I’m printing from fresh blooms using simple ink pads and paper — pressing gently, lifting carefully, and letting the natural structure of the petals and leaves create the image. No two prints are ever the same. I love how this process reveals delicate veins, unexpected textures, and subtle shifts in pressure. Travel can become inspiration itself for an artist. 🌍✨ It's often hard to find art supplies when I'm overseas, so my favourite trick is that I love wandering through local grocery stores and looking at the “art materials” on the shelves — wondering how I might make them work in my travel journal paintings. Sometimes the most unexpected materials find their way into the process. This is glue I picked up in Sri Lanka — a simple, everyday item that somehow felt full of possibility. I do wish, in retrospect, that I had filmed more of the outdoors and less of my painting… ha ha… keep watching for a View of the outdoors in the video .
