Icarus’ father, Daedulus, warned him not to fly too close to the sun, as the heat would melt his wings of feathers and wax. We know the rest of the story... This one is a bit of a blast from the past. Many years ago I used to teach painting using drywall plaster to create three dimensional surface effects. I decided to try my hand at that technique again, and enjoyed adding in watery India ink to see how the surface "hills and valleys" absorbed the ink in different manners. In this video capture from class, we’re creating marble effects using fluid paints on water and we allow those organic veining patterns to emerge. Each painting develops differently, depending on the fluid surface. I love seeing how everyone interprets the process in their own way.
