Travel can become inspiration itself for an artist. 🌍✨ It's often hard to find art supplies when I'm overseas, so my favourite trick is that I love wandering through local grocery stores and looking at the “art materials” on the shelves — wondering how I might make them work in my travel journal paintings. Sometimes the most unexpected materials find their way into the process. This is glue I picked up in Sri Lanka — a simple, everyday item that somehow felt full of possibility. I do wish, in retrospect, that I had filmed more of the outdoors and less of my painting… ha ha… keep watching for a View of the outdoors in the video . This skeleton leaf botanical was painted with @ceracolors water-soluble wax paints, and I had the thrill of peeling off the protective paper I’d placed around the edges at the end of the painting. 🌿✨ I love the contrast between the texture of the encaustic wax underneath and the surface detail created by the water-soluble wax paints. The delicate veins of the leaf are preserved, while the wax adds depth, luminosity, and a tactile quality that makes the image almost come alive.
