Flora

Encaustic Fibres

Across time, culture, history and religion, flowers have carried symbolic and spiritual meaning for humankind.  They symbolize renewal and remind us of the wonder and perfection of creation and life.

Culturally, flowers play an important role: we gift bouquets to celebrate special occasions and holidays.  Flowers accompany us through every major event in life: birth, marriage, graduation, illness and finally, death.

Flora explores the floral, using encaustic wax and a variety of mediums: silk, spunbonded Lutradur, industrial Tyvek and botanicals.

Fibre arts, like flowers, are stereotypically associated with the feminine, and historically considered less worthy as subject matter for "high art".  Shary challenges this assumption in her exploratons of floral imagery.
